|Growing Conditions||Chosen from a selection of two block parcels from Colbinabbin Estate in Northern Heathcote.Both blocks lay on classic Heathcote Cambrian red soils with varying rock levels of greenstone, buckshot & quartz.These ancient soils combine with the warm climate to deliver Shiraz grapes of great concentration, red fruit brightness, with supple, yet fine granite like tannins. 2012 saw excellent spring rains and a generally mild summer. The combination of low crop levels and mild conditions during the ripening period, together with cool nights and good canopy size were all conducive to excellent flavour development and the retention of natural acidity in the fruit.|
|Vinification/Maturation||All the fruit was carefully handpicked in the cool of the morning then quickly transported to the winery, where the fruit was carefully destemmed into open top fermenters, with up to 40% whole bunch included. A minimum period of 15 days allowed good concentration of flavours during fermentation, with great skin contact via plunging daily which was then pressed off into barrel. All batches were matured separately in French oak puncheons for 16 months with a maximum new oak percentage of 40%. Following this, the blend was carefully assembled and gently fined in preparation for bottling.|

From Colbinabbin in the north of the Heathcote region. It's in rude good health, brimful of blackberry and plum with sandalwood and clove notes as appropriate foils. Supple tannin keeps it all from getting unruly.
The Heathcote wine region in Victoria is one of the premier Shiraz growing regions in Australia. The combination of the warm climate and the classic Cambrian red soils product outstanding Shiraz fruit which goes into the new Tightrope Walker Shiraz.
