Growing ConditionsThe 2017 vintage featured a wet Winter and warm Spring and Summer. This resulted in healthy yields of grapes with excellent varietal flavours and vibrant natural acid. Summer and Spring conditions were optimal for ripening, which encouraged steady development of ripe, pure flavours in the grapes, and allowed winemakers to optimise harvest dates to pick the grapes at their peak of winemaking potential. This resulted in great colour, aromatics and ripe fruit characters all balanced by a superb tannin structure.
Vinification/MaturationShiraz was harvested in early March and was fermented on skins in automated stainless steel fermenters for a period of 5-6 days to allow for full colour and tannin extraction. The must was then pressed off and racked into premium American oak to add richness and complexity during maturation. Once maturation was completed after approximately 9 months, selected parcels of Shiraz were blended together to form this wine and a small amount of fining was done to balance this wine before bottling.
