ColourVery pale straw with light green hues.
AromaPronounced florals with intense lemon and lime splice notes, supported by fresh musk stick and orange blossom.
PalateFresh lime and an intensity on the middle palate of juicy citrus characters, this palate has a beautiful acid structure delivering elegance and finesse. The natural sugars are balanced into this acidity to deliver a clean, fresh and a long persistent finish.
Growing ConditionsThe 2013 vintage saw a cool growing season with some minor rain events delaying veraison for up to 2 weeks in areas. A heatwave throughout January quickly brought ripening back into line with previous seasons, with flavours and aromatics developing earlier than previous vintages. Hand picking was done around a week earlier than average, with great intensity of flavours the result.
Vinification/MaturationThe grapes were carefully hand harvested and whole bunch pressed with only the most refined and purest free run juice being selected for fermentation. After cold settling the juice to brightness, the Riesling juice was then racked and briefly warmed, prior to being inoculated with an aromatic yeast strain suited to enhance the Riesling characters. A cool, controlled fermentation was conducted between 10øC to14øC, which helps to retain the delicate aromatics. At the desired balance of natural acid and sweetness the ferment was slowed with refrigeration. The wine was then allowed to settle over several weeks before being carefully filtered and finally blending before being bottled. In crafting this style of Riesling the main focus was on perfectly timing the harvest to ensure an ideal balance of acid, sugar and alcohol in the final wine. Minimal handling techniques along with very cool temperatures and ridiculously reductive winemaking philosophies were paramount. The wine was bottled under screw cap to preserve freshness.
