RegionHunter Valley, NSW
ColourIntense purple
AromaLovely intense fragrant red berries, violets and plums with spicy notes
PalateIntense and long, with a beautiful fruit core. The palate is elegant with excellent texture and power
Growing ConditionsA very good growing period with above average Winter and Spring rainfall resulted in an excellent crop. Late December 2008 was very dry and early January 2009 was both dry and hot. All Shiraz blocks ripened evenly and showed some signs of heat stress with small berries and some berry shrivel. This provided power and concentration of flavours and colour to the resultant wine. The fruit was carefully handpicked in the cool morning period to retain freshness and to ensure quality.
Vinification/MaturationA combination of hand picking and machine harvesting, delivered to the winery and crushed to static fermenters. The fruit was cold soaked for three days before inoculation and a fermentation regime of plunging and pump-overs, preserving the pristine fruits from this vineyard. Pressed and racked to new and old French oak for twelve months prior to bottling.

From the celebrated terra rossa hillside opposite Lake's Folly. Its future is starting to peep through the curtains as the unity of place and variety takes shape. Hunter Valley earth, polished leather, spices and tannins are the pillars supporting the amalgam of plum and red berries and fruits. It is no more than medium-bodied, but has a long future.

Museum Release parcels are reserved for the most classic of vintages, as such this rare wine has been re-released to be enjoyed. First planted by Maurice O’Shea in 1946, the Rosehill vineyard features a north easterly aspect and a unique volcanic soil structure atypical for the Hunter Valley. These ancient soils contribute to the distinctive character of Rosehill shiraz, delivering a sophisticated wine of complexity, elegance and grace. The highest point on the valley floor, at 100 metres above sea level, the Rosehill vineyard is one of only a handful of highly prized vineyard sites in the region planted on a unique and ancient volcanic soil structure.
