|Aroma||Intense and complex aroma of golden peach, ripe fig and honeydew melon. The fruit is supported by toasty cashew nut and biscuit notes.|
|Palate||A powerful wine with great fruit intensity matched and balanced by creamy rich texture and the wonderful crisp slatey natural acidity of Tumbarumba. The melon and stone fruit flavours are perfectly ripe with a pure line of grapefruit acidity that drives the wine to fantastic depth and length, with an incredibly long, fresh and vibrant finish.|
|Growing Conditions||A hot and dry spring/summer, with no significant rain events led to even ripening for Tumbarumba Chardonnay. The high elevation, good health canopies and easterly facing slopes performed best allowing protection from the hot summer with intense fruit flavours and retaining the typically high natural acidity of the region.|
|Vinification/Maturation||Selected blocks from elevated east facing vineyards from across the Tumbarumba region were handpicked and whole bunch pressed; full grape solids and some settling was used with a combination of natural indigenous yeast and inoculated yeast. All parcels were separately barrel fermented in French oak barriques with 40% new oak and the balance older oak. Post fermentation stirring ?batonnage? was used to build texture and length, and then maturation was completed on lees in barrel for 9 months. No malolactic fermentation was used to retain the fantastic crisp slatey acidity of Tumbarumba Chardonnay. Barrels were selected individually for the blend and the wine was stabilised, gently fined and filtered before bottling.|

Light to medium yellow colour, with a more complex bouquet than the Appellation chardonnay, and a lot of finesse. Traces of honey, malt and minerals, with a faint dairy-like note (from partial malo?). A superb combination of complexity and subtlety, richness and delicacy. (A selection of the best grapes from the vintage. Two vineyards.)
This is a chardonnay. It’s a pearler. It tastes of white peach, oatmeal, citrus and river stones, smoky/creamy oak then finishing the job beautifully. A seamless wine. A powerful wine. And impressively long too.
